Karaoke Night
USGA met at the Provo City Library Thursday for a fun-filled night of karaoke. Dimmed lights and tight rows of chairs created a close-knit atmosphere. Participants volunteered their singing talents and favorite songs with numbers that included “Maybe This Time” from Glee, “Stick Season” by Noah Kahan, and “You Belong with Me” by Taylor Swift. USGA President Evelyn’s performance of “Goodbye Earl” by The Chicks was a crowd favorite.
Singing in front of people can be scary, so karaoke is an amazing way to practice vulnerability among friends. In a world that continues to close off spaces to members of the LBGTQIA2S+ community, it also allows us the opportunity to affirm our identities and right to exist as we are.
Community Chair Atlas planned the event. Reflecting on the night, he said, “I had a great time. I loved the community and felt part of it. I had a core gender memory when I sang ‘I Will Follow You into the Dark’ and I realized that I have a man voice now, and that was really slay.”
USGA will always be a place where folks can have their identities and value confirmed. Join us for our next activity to experience it yourself!
